10 Memorable Movie Scenes That Happened by Accident

Professional actors work according to the script and clear recommendations of the director, who tells what emotion or action they want to see in the frame. But sometimes on the set there are such fantastic improvisations that they overshadow everything that was originally planned.

We’ve selected memorable movie moments that were not written in the text, but turned out to be so cool that they were included in the final version of the films.

Emma Watson – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

The director of the first part of “Harry Potter” really wanted to show in the frame Hermione’s reaction as it would be if the girl really saw a real celebrity for the first time in her life – The Boy Who Lived. Therefore, Chris Columbus asked Emma Watson to say what first comes to her mind when the girl realizes that Harry Potter is in front of her. Emma did just that – opening her mouth in surprise, she said: “My God! Are you Harry Potter ?! ” The phrase was not scripted, but so sincere that it was left in the final version of the film.

Emilia Clarke – Game of Thrones

In one of the episodes of the 5th season, Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, independently invented her entire monologue in Valyrian. The show’s director Jeremy Podeswa recalls walking up to Emilia and asking, “I know this is a really difficult question, but do you think you could say it all in Valyrian?” And then, according to Jeremy, 10 minutes later, Emilia came back and delivered her entire monologue.

Christopher Hivue – “Game of Thrones”

In the popular TV series Game of Thrones, there is a scene when the regiment leaves Black Castle. At this point, the barbarian Tormund (Christopher Heavey) looks at Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) and then smiles at her. This was not written in the script.

Meryl Streep – “The Devil Wears Prada”

At the end of The Devil Wears Prada, Miranda Priestly and Andy drive in the car and talk about how the fashion industry works. Initially, Meryl Streep had to say the phrase “Everyone wants to be me” in her monologue, but the actress changed the line to “Everyone wants to be us”, thereby adding drama to the moment and emphasizing that Miranda Priestley accepted Andy into her circle.

Timothy Chalamet – Call Me by Your Name

The dramatic moment at the end of the film, where Elio Perlman sits by the fireplace, cries and looks directly into the camera lens, comes from Timothy Chalamet himself. The actor decided that his look would be a kind of tribute and goodbye to his adolescence.

Tom Hanks – “You’ve Got Mail”

In the romantic comedy You’ve Got Mail, the protagonist Joe Fox emerges from a bookstore holding balloons, numerous purchases, and a bag of goldfish. When the man closes the door, the balls accidentally get stuck, to which Tom Hanks dropped: “Lucky it’s not a fish.” The whole scene and the actor’s reaction were unplanned.

Jim Carrey – “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”

To repeat the well-known trick, when the tablecloth is removed from the table in one fell swoop, without dropping a single object, you need to train for a long time and carefully. Unless you’re Jim Carrey, of course. According to the script, the Grinch had to pull the tablecloth off the table, but quite by accident Kerry performed this trick flawlessly, after which he returned to the frame and threw all the objects off the table with his hand. As a result, acting out turned out to be much more interesting than the prescribed script.

Camilla Luddington – Grey’s Anatomy

After the release of one of the episodes of the 14th season of Grey’s Anatomy, actress Camilla Luddington revealed that the scene where her character, Dr. Joe Wilson, kisses Jessica Capshaw right after kissing her on-screen fiancé, was her complete improvisation.

Millie Bobby Brown – Stranger Things

In episode 4 of Stranger Things season 3, the character Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, ends her scene with a violent dramatic tantrum and falls exhausted into Mike’s arms. In fact, it was a real reaction of the body of a young actress, who worked for several days in a row almost without a break and at the end of filming was completely exhausted.
